FPOW for Things & Ink Magazine

I don’t just write about fashion but also my other love tattoos. If you’d like to read some of my musing on body art then you can check out my blog column for my favourite magazine Things & Ink.

Where I chat about the perceptions of women with tattoos, my feeling and experiences being tattooed and other thoughts on my mind.

New Candle Obsession

My best friend got me into candles, after being forced to smell every possible scent in Jo Malone and Molton Brown each Saturday I eventually gave in and jumped on board the band wagon. Now we have trays of candles in every room, a different fragrance for any occasion or mood imaginable. I had been wanting to try the Flamingo Candles* for a while, I’d heard only gushing reviews of the wonderfully creative scents and you can’t deny the come in the prettiest flamingo branded jar. These Flamingo candles are from Flamingo Gifts

who offer a huge selection in the range, with fragrances from the tradition such as Oriental lotus & Rose otto to Blackcurrent Jam there will be something to suit everyone! They really do fill the whole room with scent which lasts and lasts, I am a real convert and am already making a list of which to choose next. Flamingo Gifts have 10% off at the moment too (usually £11) so well worth taking advantage of that and having a treat, or two.

I’d love to know which fragrances you have tried?

We’ve been moving these past few weeks, all I can say is what a nightmare! Still surrounded by boxes but getting there, if slowly. First thing’s first, getting all the shoes out of their boxes and back on the new shoe wall.

What Pearl Wore 2014

Since starting this blog I have started off each new year with a round up of my favourite outfits. I wasn’t sure if to do so this year due to the evolution of the blog, but then again I think its interesting to be able to look back over my fashion journey.  Sadly the blog is still suffering from the recent hacker incident and some of the images aren’t showing, it is disheartening to say the least. It will take time to rebuild so please bear with me.  Here are the links to my previous 5 years in fashion and a rather sparse year 6:

What Pearl Wore 2009, 20102011,

(sorry but posts for these years aren’t back up yet from the hacking, its taking a long, long time to restore 2012, 2013)

 What Pearl Wore 2014

Full on Westwood

My Carrie Bradshaw moment – the skirt is a version of her wedding dress in the Sex and The City movie! All Vivienne Westwood couture

Squiggle, squiggle, squiggle!

One of my favourite Gold Label gowns, its got a train what more can I say.

My favourite Worlds End piece and favourite dress in the world, the Shirtwaister.

Evening wear

Once upon a time I would have said there was no distinction between by day to night wear, these days my workwear has to be really toned down which has influenced by style all round. These are two cheap High St outfits the black is River Island and Zara, the floral is Select but I really like the cuts on them both – with crazy shoes by Chanel and Agent Provocatuer though, you can’t take the girl that far out of the city!

Best thing about winter? Its the coats and this is my favourite coat by a mile, 90’s Westwood at its finest. You can’t keep a coat like this locked away for best, worn here with River Island jumper, M&S jeans, ASH boots.

Can’t beat a vintage aran knit and a VW kilt with some killer boots.

As much as I like coats and boots I am much more of a summer girl, if only for the easy of getting ready in the morning. Dress + shoes = done!

60’s influence in a dress from my beloved Mooch vintage in Sheffield, Fendi B belt, VW shoes

If you aren’t sick of seeing this dress on the blog by now then you are doing well!

Little pin-up/sailor inspired outfit. top River Island everything else VW

Cute little Topshop find with staple Converse, wish we had more days hot enough for this!

Home: French Bedroom Company

The French Bedroom Company is the brainchild of Georgia Metcalfe, a girl with a passion for French style who wanted to bring quintessential chicness to the UK. If you are lucky enough to be in West Sussex you can drop by the luscious boutique, or you can delve inside Georgia’s world online. As you know I have an eye for anything luxurious and quirky so The French Bedroom Co is a homewear mecca for me. I could honestly kit out my entire home with their wonderful offerings, but until then here is a little corner dedicated to their wares. What better way to brighten up an empty nook in the hallway than this handsome ceramic moose – he is dressed to impress for Christmas with his baubles.

Lighting the way is this urban metal work arrow lamp, it runs on batteries so no need to scramble for a wall socket. When we move this will light the way to the shoe room, but for now it signals the way across the hall. Completing the trio is the My Deer candlestick, it is incredible detailed with a row of stags surrounded by little acorns and foliage.

All in all I have to say this has brightened up the hallway in more ways than one. Should you be looking for some beautiful homeware from chaises to chairs, a classic throw or an edge piece of wall art, even a gift for someone special, with something for all budgets you should take a look at The French bedroom Co.

We’re Back in Business!!!!!

Hello!!!!!!!! For those of you following on Social Media you will know that sadly I’ve been unable to blog recently due to the servers being hacked. This has been an absolute nightmare, especially at the point where we thought over 6 years of blog posts were lost forever. Luckily we have been able to get back online and fingers very tightly crossed the problem is well and truly over. We are currently running on a version of Beta so please bear with us whilst we iron out the last few glitches. Thanks you so much to everyone for sticking with us through all of this, your support really has kept me going. We are back and will soon be better than ever 🙂

Lots of love,

Pearl xxx

New Birthday Shoes – Customised Converse

It’s my birthday and because I am super spoilt I got these amazing customised leopard print Converse from my beloved. Since moving to Sheffield and all its hilly glouriousness I rediscovered by appreciation of a good pair of Cons. I don’t think I will ever get over my leopard print obsession and since I know some of you will be lusting after this pair I went searching for other cool leopard print trainers. This lace-less pair of KEDS Champions are really gorgeous and my top pick.

Blood and Ink

I didn’t take a break from blogging, however as you know I have slowed things down this year after starting a new full time job and relocating it was hard to find the time and energy to create a photoshoot. On top of that working in sustainable fashion has put something of, not quite a guilt trip, but something of a more concious state of mind in play. I started to question my own shopping habits and in return what I was blogging about. I haven’t gone cold turkey on fashion but I have certainly changed, I will write a full post on this as its pretty interesting. What I wanted to talk about here is something else which is a big part of my life. For those of you on Instagram (@SuperElevated) this will come as nothing new, whilst I have forgone the fashion addiction (somewhat) I have been investing in another area. My body and body art. I had my first tattoo aged 16, I followed that up with five more over the next few years the last I think I was around 20, as an undergrad at university, was to remain unfinished for the next 12 years. I can’t tell you why it took that long, the most recent years having a tattoo was impossible due to the immuno-suppressant medication I had to take. I guess it was just something out of mind if not always out of sight. My first tattoo on my wrist I have now lived with just as long with, as without. When something is so much a part of you it isn’t a concious thing, not for me anyway. Its like remembering you have a left knee everyday, you just don’t.

A lot changed for me this year, another thing was finally coming off my medication, not cured but lets say on hold, how long for it isn’t known, a day, a month, ten years? But I feel mostly ok and that’s good enough for me, without the steroids I’ve been getting fit again and I think that was the first stage in deciding to get the unfinished tattoo on my thing sorted out. After putting a lot of thought into it, myself and my artist decided that a cover up would be the best option but due to the heavy black outlines a few sessions of laser removal first would give the best result. Everything I am mentioning here I will write about separately in more detail, gory photos too if you like. But this is the first time in a while I’ve really felt I had something to say without visuals to speak for me. Tomorrow is something of a big day for me, it doesn’t really feel like it is yet but I guess it must do in a way for me to be typing out the waffles like this. As of tomorrow I will go from being someone with a few tattoos to the first stage of the process in becoming what some would class as heavily tattooed. Its not a decision I’ve taken lightly or rushed into, obviously as I am well aware of the impact your appearance has on your life. But sometimes there are just some things you need to do, this is one of them. So whilst I am not changing the nature of the blog from fashion to tattoos, it will of course change in some ways as I do. I’ve never had a set agenda for the blog, its just rolled with me over the years and hopefully will continue to do so for many more. Lets say then its something of a new chapter.

Why the Converse photos? I got this new pair not even two weeks ago and they are already covered in blood and ink, custom body, custom shoes. I got these from Spartoo where these All Stars and some other styles are on sale. I hadn’t worn Cons for years and have been living in these, so comfy. Although I’m not sure cream was the wisest colour choice for me!

Outfit: What Have I Been Wearing Lately

┬áHere are a few Instagram snaps of what I’ve been wearing to work, mostly suit co-ordinates or skirt and jacket combos. Have to say I looking forwards to being able to shed the winter coats.

1. all Vivienne Westwood, Anglomania coat, suit and shirt, Gold Label Mary-Jane shoes

2. vintage velvet jacket, Whistles skirt, Markus Lupfer tshirt, Rupert Sanderson Bessie shoes

3. all Vivienne Westwood, Red label Harris Tweed Love suit and heart jumper

Where I Realise How Boring I’m Becoming

Okay, okay I know promise this is the last snoozeberg post about homeware! Well at least for a while. If TK Maxx would deliver ten paces across the street I would be the proud owner of a huge green flocked mirror, alas I had to get one off eBay from the Mirror Outlet (highly recommended) because nowhere delivers any more. As it turns out I should have gone to eBay in the first place as there were tons of great options. In the end I decided a 6ftx6ft mirror was excessive even for selfie queen like me and got this one 5.8ft x2.3ft which fits nicely in my hallway. On the plus side I can now get back to outfit blogging even if it is only iPhone snaps (that whole tripod and trigger set up might happen one day). One last homeware hit, kitsch tea set up. Is that not the coolest milk jug you ever did see?
