Event Invite: Bill Cunningham Street Style Film Screening and Q&A, London 12/6/13

Ultra Vie presents Bill Cunningham Private Screening, Soho Business Club, 12th June 2012 6pm-9pm

You are invited to join me at a private screening of the cult documentary film ‘Bill Cunningham, New York’ which delves into the life of the first street style photographer. After the sceening there will be a Q&A session with fashion experts and a networking reception.

The film sheds light on Bill’s life as an artist and his exploration of the way people dress through photography. The event will welcome an exclusive audience from the fashion industry, with a focus on fashion blogging, offering a unique networking experience. The Q&A will see a panel of street fashion professionals, whose specialties range from writing to photography, including Dan Stern from Street Fashion Monitor, Pearl Westwood from Fashion Pearls of Wisdom and Vogue photographer Dvora Lan from Fashionistable.

“I said many times that we all get dressed up for Bill. He has been documenting me since I was a kid, one snap, two snaps, or he ignores you… which is death.” Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-cheif

Guests will enjoy the screening in the heart of London in Soho, with flavoured gourmet pop-corn from Proper Corn and refreshing drinks supplied by Peroni.

Tickets are available at £25, reserve your place at http://www.ultravie.co.uk/Bill_Cunningham_Private_Screening_and_Q_A

Company Style Blogger Awards: The Event

We had a hell of a ball at the Company Awards, it was a nice and somewhat rare chance for all of us bloggers to get together and have have time to chat – nope fashion week doesn’t count as we are all working and┬á rushing around.

The Company team

We might win…

We might not. We conceded that far more categories were needed in the awards especially a Blogger with the Best Boobs: winner Helga and a Blogger who is just generally Fabulous: winner Vix!

Charlotte’s hand made hat and clutch are made from old records, I was amazed listening to how she makes them.

A chance to see New Looks Spring/Summer collection, lots of pretty pastels and vibrant prints. I fell in love with a pair of printed trousers from their Limited Collection and would love to pair them with the snakeskin print heels you can see above.  There was also make overs by Gemma Kid Beauty and lovely canapes and cocktails.

You can see lots more photo’s from the event over on the Company site including┬áBlogger Style and all The Winners. Thanks Company for such a fun night!

Outfit: Colour Clash Tights

(Wearing: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress, Vivienne Westwood belt, Vivienne Westwood Worlds End ‘Tracy Trainers’, Primark tights)

I really loved the colour clash tights I saw at the TK Maxx press day so I thought I would give it a try. I am always buying brightly coloured tights but tend to wear them with more muted colour clothes. They key to this look is to make sure your tights and dress or coat are one block colour, the colours themselves don’t matter, you can go for exact opposites on the colour wheel such as green and red, yellow and purple, orange and blue. Or the colours can be more complementary such as pink and orange, purple and red etc. The shoes are where most people meet a stumbling block as the wrong show can ruin the blocking effect. The best option is to either match your shoes to your tights or match you shoes to the top colour. Here I matched my shoes with my tights but I could also have gone for purple shoes. You can always introduce a third colour so long as it is complementary,┬á for example here I could have added orange shoes. If all else fails go for black or nude shoes.

I have wanted a pair of Tracy Trainers for years and finally decided to get them, but more on those another time.

I wore this outfit to go and meet some fellow bloggers Nora Daisy, Coleyyyful, Science Chic Geek and Be Beautiful.

A Series of Unfortunate Dresses

If you think this photo is silly you should see the rest! Oh wait, what’s that you do want to see the rest, here goes…
My lovely Florrie and Emma came up to Manchester for a spot of shopping which turned into a series of trying on very random outfits! Above you have Florrie in a vintage check blouse which looked cute on the hanger but a little too much like an Asda checkout girl uniform up close! Emma is wearing quite a cute dress actually but we just loved its feature huge price tag even more than the dress. I just wanted to be in the photo so picked up this straw hat with more holes in it than Swiss cheese. All this fun was at Cow vintage.

This was the most beautiful dress of the day, it even has its own story, but that will come with a later post.

Oh no wait this was the most beautiful dress of the day too, don’t you love its Victorian lace and sweet embroidery! OK so not all the dresses were unfortunate!

All this shopping was getting tiring so we love Retro Rehab for providing a couch!

This little vintage shop Vintage Retitled is just under Aflecs Palace and can be missed if you don’t look out for it. We decided it is our favourite vintage shop as it has a small, yet very carefully selected stock of very high quality vintage pieces from all eras – not just crap from the 80s. Florrie bought the most beautiful 1950s blouse but I will let her show it off herself.

We had planned a nice picnic style lunch sat outside in the sun but of course the rain started to pour so we retreated to Starbucks. Not sure what was going on with the staff in there that day but there was some serious confusion over how to make pancakes and a crazy person had put pasta in all the salads.

After refueling we headed to Elite where many unfortunate dress trying on ensured.

Next stop was TK Maxx where Emma scored a lovely Luella skirt.

In Primark Florrie found this cute bag, however we are both too snobbish over bags and decided it was far too cheaply made.

Just to get the point across!

Primark suddenly proved fruitful with a range of Hello Kitty eggs, Florrie is obsessed with HK so I helped her in snaffling a large stash of them.

Then we went home to bed.

I wanted to put this post up today as Florrie wrote a very special blog post today for Migraine Awareness Week ‘Can you put a price on Pain?’. As you know I suffer from an autoimmune disease which I have mentioned on the blog before. When Florrie and I first me we knew we had a lot in common with our love for fashion, vintage and art but little did we know that we both suffered horrendously with our health. It is an amazingly honest post which I urge you to read.

Happy sweet Sunday,

You Have to Question my Sanity: NW Blogger Meet Up Part 2

I just saw this photo Helen took on her blog, this was a dress I tried on but didn’t buy. Why? Why did I not buy this dress, when it is obviously amazing??? I guess I was too caught up trying on comedy outfits like the gold leather trousers. Lets hope as usual I am the only person in the world likely to want it and it will still be there later in the week. Might have to go back for that blue jumpsuit too….
I also forgot to mention the amazing marzipan lollies we got in Starbucks, the discovery that I do not suit turbans and the shock when Char pulled out her ‘sensible, black work shoes’ which where at least 9″ peep-toe platforms – you know you belong when you are with fellow bloggers.

Reserved for the Bloggers: NW Blogger Meet Up

Saturday was our North West bloggers meet up and what a fabulous day we had! We had a pre-meet-up meet-up first at Walrus one of my favorite places in Manchester for a drink and a delicious Japanese lunch. Then we officially met up at Nexus, arranged by Jacky who sadly couldn’t make it, but thank you Jacky it was a great place. Nexus is a homely cafe with mugs of tea and huge slabs of cake. Also big thanks to Helen for arranging the meet up in the first place.

Mrs Bossa making herself at home in this wonderful old armchair which had been lovingly embroidered.

The gang: Zoe from PennyBlossoms, Danielle from a blog from Blackpool, Mrs B from Mrs Bossa does the do, Char from Trexs and tiaras, Helen from Afeitar, Alex from Odd socks and pretty frocks

What I wore: Vintage dress, Ann Demeulemeester jacket, Vivienne Westwood bag, shoes belt.

Beautiful Irregular choice shoes worn by Char and Alex

Now for some silliness involving jumpsuits!

As you can see Mrs B started to melt

Just call us Ant & Dec

Here is my swag from the day a pink top so bright it was hurting my eyes, some vintage sunnies and my new favorite scent Comme des Garcons Wonderwood.

There are more incriminating photos from the days shenanigans but I will leave you to find those of your own accord, (there may be one involving gold leather trousers).

We hope to have another meet up soon, hope you will join us!
