Day 2: LFW AW 14 – For Realz

Close up with Mich Dulce

DSC_1241DSC_1242DSC_1243 DSC_1246DSC_1249

┬áDepending on what part of the world you are from you might know Mich for a variety of reasons, artist, musician, actress, milliner. I know Mich as we share a love for Vivienne Westwood clothing and a ton of mutual friends, we first met over shoe admiration and have been buddies ever since. There are a lot of things I like about Mich, one is her combination of technical skill and creativity in her millinery designs, the other is that her fashion house is sustainable. All her hats are made from a banana fiber called T’nalak which is a traditional Filipino fibre which is hand woven by women who are part of a poverty alleviation community. The women receive training so they can learn skills and help support themselves. If you ever needed an excuse to invest in a new hat, I can see no better reason. I adore Mich’s designs from caps with kitten ears, huge bows and draped veils there is something from the most traditional of tastes to the more avant guarde. www.MichDulce.com

Style it, Be it

DSC_1305

This is what Somerset House was basically reduced to over most of Friday and Saturday, not the best weather to be stood out in a queue nor snapping street style. Everyone trooped on though and made the most of it. Extra thanks to the lovelies who braved a brolly free minute for me to shoot them. Things I picked up on were accent pops of colour, be it a fab manicure, statement clutch or ring these little highlights can brighten up any outfit. A great way to introduce colour to a conservative working wardrobe too. These personal little styling touches are what really make an outfit your own and move it away from just a trend. DSC_1274DSC_1292DSC_1294

If  huge dollops of colour are more your thing then why not take some tips from these guys, matching hats and scarves, clashing pinks and reds, a smatter of leopard print and white with cobalt blue, all utterly lush.

As for me you saw this outfit yesterday as I sulked in the rain! I have to say I’ve not dared look at how the satin leopard courts held up 🙁

I have to say I utterly adore this coat from TK Maxx though, bonkers but brilliant. The huge bag is from there too, both part of the new season Gold Label collection. If you haven’t heard of the Gold Label collection it is a carefully edited range of high end designer clothes and accessories which included runway pieces – but at high street prices!! I dare you to go check it out (lists of stores with the collection are available on their website) and not be amazed.

Share your favorite LFW and personal style looks with us using the tag #StyleItBeIt we’d love to see!

So many outfits, so little time! I counted 56 outfit posts on the blog this year, that’s just over one per week not bad going. Will 2014 see more? We shall have to see, one selfie mirror much needed. Here are a few of my favourites, you can see the rest in my Facebook album What Pearl Wore 2013.

Here are the past four years round ups!

Details:┬á Sunglasses – Shadowlands After Hours in Confetti; Necklaces Vivienne Westwood; Make-up Bobbi Brown LongWear foundation, Retouching powder in white; Illamasqua Fundamental eye pallet, Raven Masquara, Kate / Ambition blush duo, Mahogany eyeshadow for brows, Nude pink blush, nail varnish in Pink Valentine┬á

Here is Part 2 of my Pearl hearts Shadowlands posts. We saw the dark and delicious Highway in Cherry Cola in Part 1, today let me introduce the ultra glamorous After House in Confetti. From the 50s vamp triangular frames to the wonderful Tuti-Fruti inclusions, I have to say I am crazy about these sunglasses. I can just see myself pairing them with a flirty vintage frock and heels this summer, all to sip Martinis in of course.

N.B. The first photo is for my mum, talented photographer and mocker of my unsmiling ways!

Whirlwind Weekend in London

I’m am just back from a whirlwind weekend in London. We went down on Friday for two days of shopping, eating and gossiping. I am suffering now, not sure if its too much talking or Tube germs but I’ve lost my voice which everyone thinks is hysterical. I think we must have qualified for the most tartan worn in a group in the Guinness Worlds Records. If one of us gets funny looks walking down the street you can imagine the reaction we got when we are in numbers! #AnnualTartanConvention

Outfit: Being Meryl

This photo was actually taken a while back to help out a blog reader who was working on a project illustrating how the trench coat is a timeless piece. I am wearing my vintage Burberry trench which I utterly love. Do you recognise the pose? I was reenacting the famous Meryl Streep pose in Kramer vs Kramer from 1979. The film was made 3 years before I was born so I think that proves the trench really is a keeper piece! The dress and boots are vintage finds too, but you can find similar chocolate brown boots in this Guess pair and I recommend ebay for finding vintage Burberry trenches.

Throw Back Thursday: Holey Socks at Worlds End

DSC_4545-21

I ususally only take part in the Throw Back Thursday tag on Instagram (@SuperElevated) but I wanted to share here too as it is such a great photo, with such a great tale. You can find out why I was wearing these holey socks at Worlds End in the original post back in January. I was reminded of it as I pulled out all my big winter clothes this week, I may not like being freezing cold but I do love winter fashion!

Outfit: Ghawazi Skirt First Outing

1384322_652622291444493_708306248_nWearing Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Ghawazi skirt, Tits t-shirt, Animal toe shoes, Samuri cardigan

Finally decided to wear the Ghawazi skirt I bought from SS12, sometimes I just like to save things for a while before I wear them. This was during the Vogue Fashion Night Out event. Really want to try this skirt over a jumper for winter as done on the runway, just need to find the right one. The silk printed fabric is absolutely stunning, one of my favourite pieces by far. Another firm favourite are these black suede Animal Toe courts, I wear them all the time. I think black courts are just the easiest shoe to wear, my old Dior black patent courts have been a staple for years. I’ve been after a new pair, but I’m picky and finding it hard to find the perfect ones. Love, love, love the Animal Toe courts and really want them in another colour, but also want a classic black court but with something a bit special about them. At the moment these pointy wedges from Bourne are tempting me. The key for me is finding a comfortable pair which are easy to run around in, I can find tons of gorgeous pairs with staggering heels!

Outfit: Autumn Tartan

1382920_653745827998806_277063752_n

Ever get that feeling when you have put on a perfect outfit, one you just love so much you would be happy to wear it every day for the rest of the year? Well this is how I feel about this one, perfect for autumn and it involves to of the best things in the world, tartan and capes, what’s not to love!

Outfits: Vivienne Westwood Inspirations #4 – Conceal, Reveal

DSC_0337 (2)DSC_0339 (2)

Today I’m Wearing: Vivienne Westwood Gold Label AW10 shirt, Anglomania Kung Fu trousers, Tartan Meg Gillie Shoes from AW11, Worlds End John Bull hat, lips choker.

This looks takes the basis from the last Vivienne Westwood Inspirations post ‘Like Superman’ and tailors it right back up. In general ‘fashion rules’ the idea is to balance one oversized, baggy piece against something more fitted. A voluminous blouse with tight pencil skirt say, or a cocoon coat with sharp stilettos. Westwood however doesn’t do rules. For the SS03 collection the look was full on flounce, lots and lots of volume. Her trick to stopping the models looking overwhelmed by layers and layers of fabric was to keep the blouses off the shoulders reveling the slender decolletage and ankles.

DSC_0342 (2)

Continuing from AW11 I kept the yellow tights clashing against the tartan shoes, added the grey baggy trousers and buttoned up the shirt but kept it off the shoulders.
