Curvy Chic: Five Fashions for Fuller Figures

Advertorial Post

If you’re a plus size woman, you know that shopping can sometimes be more frustrating than it is fun. But that doesn’t have to be the case if you know what to look for. Most of the time, the frustration that comes from shopping as a plus size woman originates in not knowing what looks amazing on a plus size frame, rather than there being a lack of options available. There really are a wide variety of options for plus size women. Never miss out on a fashion trend; just keep the following tips in mind and you’ll be able to find an outfit that’s perfect for you.

Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is one of the most useful fashion accessories for plus size women. Its straight style is great for slimming your hips, and the high waist, when paired correctly with tops, can help slim your tummy. It also helps to elongate your figure, which helps you look taller and sleeker. Add some heels to a pencil skirt, and you are ready to rock!

Faux Sheepskin Jackets

Faux sheepskin jackets can be beautiful and stylish, but they can also help you out if you’re a plus size woman. A sharp jacket can compliment any outfit, and it can help by creating a straight style, which elongates your body, makes you look a bit taller, and covers some common problem areas. Since they come in so many colours, you can wear a faux sheepskin jacket with just about anything, and in the winter months, they come in particularly helpful since they are so warm.

Thick Belt

A thick belt can help cinch in your waist, which gives you a beautiful hourglass figure. This can help you look thinner through the middle, and it also elongates your body. The other thing that’s great about belt’s is that they can be used to break up your body, keep on the natural waist to create an hourglass, wear high on the empireline to elongate legs and drop it low on the hips to create a longer torso.

Shift Dresses

Shift dresses are usually monochromatic, draw attention to the face, and have a loose but complimentary fit. These dresses are not only easy to slip on and comfortable to wear, but they do wonders for the plus size figure. While most plus size women stick to dark colours and black, the shift dress can be worn in just about any colour and still look great. Add a pair of heels and some long earrings to your favourite shift dress, and you’ll be on your way to a classy outfit that elongates your frame and makes you look smaller. I simply adore seeing all these plus size bloggers showing how to wear a shift, so chic.

Jeans That Fit

Make sure you have a pair of jeans that actually fit you. Many plus size women try to wear loose, baggy, or large jeans, but this does not help you at all. In fact, it makes you look larger than you really are because it adds to your figure. Instead, get a pair of jeans that fits snugly but comfortably, and wear them with v-neck tops and heels, if you want to dress it up. This can help elongate your frame. Bootcut jeans are in style right now, and they’re great for plus size women, so find a pair of properly fitted bootcut jeans and show off what you’ve got.

Theses tips, tricks, and styles can help you immensely if you’re a plus size woman. They can elongate your frame, accentuate your hourglass figure, and frame your face beautifully. But the best tool any woman can have when it comes to fashion is confidence. Embrace your shape! There are many beautiful options available for plus size women, and owning your body type with confidence can help you shop with a positive attitude. So get out there and find some amazing outfits!

Outfit: High Street Hotties

Wearing: French Connection Popcorn jumper*, TK Maxx skirt, Vivienne Westwood tartan bag, Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Lady Dragon shoes, Jon Richard Mood black and gold pleated necklace*, vintage long jewel necklace.

Oh my gosh an outfit post without the use of Instagram photos! I know, I know, I admit I am pretty proud of myself for managing this too. I crawled under the rails amongst boxes and bin bags to pull out a reasonably appropriate outfit for leaving the house yesterday. Of course the renovations which have now progressed to my bedroom are going to take much longer than originally planned so once again I am left without access to my clothes. My brother is now regretting the offer of storing some of my stuff for me since he can’t get out of his own bed without tripping over boxes of my shoes. It’s funny because so many of my friends have gladly offered to look after my shoes for me…

Anyway I am hoping to have my bedroom back at least in some shape by next week, the rest of the house could go on until Christmas at this rate. My awesome builder/interior designer has gone from constructing me an Ikea Billy bookcase for my shoes to building an entire walk-in wardrobe so it will be worth it in the end. The shoes will finally get to come out of their boxes!

Amidst the chaos my rummaging managed to unearth this outfit for the ever changing weather we are having this week, fully prepared for hot, cold and wet all at the same time. This pink pleated TK Maxx skirt has been a favourite since I first wore it to London Fashion Week way back in Sept 2011 (that photo makes me cringe hated that hair cut and haven’t a cut since). It ended up being quite a nice day but the strong wind – as you will see below where I try and look serious and fail, made it a bit chilly so I took the chance to try out this new French Connection ‘Popcorn’ jumper. I’ve been on the look out for a new cable knit jumper since I got a lot of wear out of my old one last year, I really liked the little side splits on this one giving it a bit more detail. The shoes had their first outing too, pretty but reminded me why I’d gone off wearing Lady Dragon’s, they do pinch a bit. Melissa shoes are great for the rain though as they are waterproof. I feel a bit Minnie Mouse in these with the huge bows, so cute. Paired with these sweet anchor print socks, you know I love socks.

I’ve really had to think a lot about my wardrobe these last couple of weeks, since I had to empty my bedroom I was forced to look at every single item of clothing I owned – no more stuffing things into draws, no more denial about quite how much I have. I guess I can write a full post about that alone, but one thing that came to mind whilst writing this post is that is doesn’t matter where your clothes come from, or how much they cost, there is never any indicator until an item is in your life, just how much – or not, you will wear it.

Trends: Summer Daywear Essentials for 2013

With summer finally kicking in, itÔÇÖs time to start thinking about what additions and changes you need to brighten up your summer wardrobe. From days out to country pubs and the neighbourÔÇÖs garden party, simple updates can be made to ensure that youÔÇÖre looking the part over the upcoming months. But where to start?
Finding those summer staple pieces can be tricky, so here are my top summer wardrobe easy updates! From party-wear to office attire, here are the clothing essentials you need for summer 2013.

┬áThe Maxi dress, as seen on Vivienne Westwood’s runway left and this fab Matalan chiffon number right

Summer is full of special occasions. Whether itÔÇÖs a wedding or garden party, there are plenty of events to keep your summer busy. However, before you can let your hair down and have a good time, thereÔÇÖs the important matter of finding that perfect outfit!
If itÔÇÖs during the day then donÔÇÖt worry about looking too formal. Think smart-casual but with a touch of glam. One item which always ticks the right boxes are maxi dresses UK. An absolute must for any ladyÔÇÖs wardrobe, maxis are the ideal transition piece for those day events that last well into the night. Tasteful, elegant and guaranteed to impress, couple a pretty printed maxi with tan wedges and a light cardie, and youÔÇÖll be good to go!

Days Out

Days out are a little different. Perhaps youÔÇÖre thinking of taking the kids to the zoo or visiting the beach. In which case, you┬á need to dress more practically; clothes which youÔÇÖll be comfortable wearing and donÔÇÖt mind getting dirty. However, thatÔÇÖs not to say that you canÔÇÖt still be stylish!
Cropped trousers are great way to show that youÔÇÖre ready for summer. Be they chinos or linen trousers, theyÔÇÖre smart and work well with anything. You could pair them with a vest and a crochet jumper, or wear them with a white tee and chic navy blazer; the choice is yours!

Office Attire

With work wear itÔÇÖs about achieving that happy medium of comfort and sophistication. On the one hand you want to give the impression of professionalism, but at the same time, eight hours in tight uncomfortable clothes doesnÔÇÖt inspire productivity. So our advice is, keep it simple!
A sleek black pencil skirt combined with a gorgeous silk blouse exudes confidence as well as being easy to work in; worthy additions to your wardrobe. Or alternatively you could sport a classic midi with some cute court shoes. Lovely.

Psyche – Perfect Pitstop for Summer

PicMonkey Collage

It’s nearly summer, well alright how about I rephrase that, its time for the new season! The weather might not be reliable but that doesn’t mean we can’t invest in some cheerful and bright clothes to put a spring in our step. I do love a good shop, both online and in person depending on what mood I am in, but it can be time consuming trailing around different shops and many department stores are a mish-mash of things which aren’t any one style. This is where specialist fashion store Psyche comes in, online or in real life (should you be near Cleveland) it is a designer life style store with the scale of a department store. With 30 years in the business Psyche stands out from the crowd as it retains a boutique atmosphere of carefully selected brands and merchandise, making shopping a thing of ease. I really like the way they cater for every budget without scrimping on quality, prices range from an average of┬á ┬ú50-┬ú200. This is really clever because it appeals to the way most of us shop these days, saving up for one statement, key item and hunting out lower priced pieces to top-up our look.

I thought I would pick out some pieces which I would like to be wearing this season. The first piece is this stunning jacket by Maison Scotch as ┬ú248.99 it is what I call affordably expensive – something you would save up for, an investment item. I’ve paired it here with an on trend summer look, but it would work just as well with a skirt and blouse for work or over a summer maxi-dress. Prints were all over the runways again, mix them or match them, so long as you cover yourself in them! These Paul by Paul Smith trousers and shirt are perfect for wearing together or alone. You know I am a shoe girl and I am in love with these glittery Ted Baker heels, too stunning to save just for parties, rock them with your summer dresses and even jeans. You can’t go wrong with a clutch bag, this Ted Baker in Peptobismol pink is the colour of the season, such a great pop of colour. Don’t forget your summertime chic with a pair of designer shades like these from Marc Jacobs. The easiest way to update your look is some new sparkly jewellery. I really like to layer up necklaces so these White Leaf designs are perfect for that, with their purse friendly prices you can afford to buy more than one (┬ú19.99-┬ú29.99).

Not forgetting the guys, here are some top spring buys which will see you into summer. My statement item of choice would be this Polo by Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply shirt ┬ú118.99, the patches make the print clashing trend easy. Baseball jackets have been high on the fashion radar for a while now and show no sign of going away so this Lacoste logo bomber is going to be a key piece well into next year. The simple shape means it will work with sweats as well as a shirt and pants. A nice pair of cargo trousers like these again from Polo by Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply are nice change to denim. Keeping with the smart-casual theme these Original Penguin boots have a Herringbone inlay which hones in on the Country Heritage trend. The Aviator is by far the most versatile style of shades, these Gucci ones don’t come cheap but are a great investment as they will never go out of fashion. I think accessories are made to have some fun with, this quirky Paul Smith tablet case is really sleek, whilst the Union Jack Barbour print holdall is practical and stylish. For a colour pop this Nixon watch is a subtle way of approaching colour and at ┬ú53.99 it is a great price.

What wardrobe update do you have your eye on for then new season?

Comic Relief: 50 Ways to Wear it

I am sure you already know that TK Maxx have joined with Comic Relief and Stella McCartney to design these fun Red nose day t-shirts to raise money for the charity. I took mine along to London Fashion Week and wore one each day – such a shame it was so cold and I didn’t get to show them off as much as I would have liked! My favourite way to wear the t-shirts was with a pretty, floaty skirt and sky high heels.

Now you can share your own ways to style the Comic Relief t-shirts and help raise awareness for Red Nose Day by uploading you photo to the TK Maxx Facebook page and clicking on the 50 Ways to Wear it app tab. Just ‘like’ the app page and upload your photo, easy as that!

If you don’t have your t-shirt yet they are available in TK Maxx stores and online here in women’s, men’s and kids sizes and a range of designs.

Events: Forever 21 Launch, Manchester

This morning I was invited to the Manchester launch of US store Forever 21. I first visited F21 when I was in the States, there seemed to be one in every mall and it was the go to place for a reasonably priced fashion hit. What I liked about it was that even though the prices were low the products were good, no direct runway rip just cool, trend led designs. I was also really impressed with the boutique feel of the store which I was pleased to see brought over to the UK, checker board tile floors and ornate tables stacked with jars of bright coloured accessories.

It seems I wasn’t the only one keen to check out the new store, as people camped out over night to be first in line, with a chance for the first 300 customers to receive a free surprise gift card – ┬ú10-┬ú200 up for grabs. By midday the check out queue snaked all around the store, proof that everyone was impressed with what they found. My top picks were the faux-leather and denim bustiers – perfect over shirts, a printed pair of orange and blue chunky heels and the stacks of costume jewellery, spiked bracelets and statement collars. I didn’t have time to joint the crazy queue but I will be returning soon to pick up a few pieces.

You can seem lots more in my  FaceBook Album! Forever 21 is also available online.

Have you been to Forever 21?

Outfit: In Disguise

Wearing: New Look printed trousers and earrings, Irregular Choice shoes, River Island t-shirt, Zara jumper, All Saints sunglasses via TK Maxx

People always ask me ‘what do you wear for casual?’ Truth be told I don’t really do casual, nor do I do dressy, I just do me. So I am either terribly over or terribly under dressed depending on how you look at it. I came to this decision after years of screaming in front of my wardrobe ‘I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR’ whenever challenged to dress for evening. It was something of a revelation the day I decided for the first time to shun the fact everyone else would be wearing an evening dresses and turn up in jeans. I’ve never looked back, there is no point trying to wear something you aren’t comfortable in. What I am comfortable in is trousers, with pockets, they have to have pockets. Add a loose t-shirt or jumper and a pair of heels, done. That is my daily uniform. What do I look like off-duty, well pretty much like this. Exactly the same as I always look but with my hair lazily scraped up and no make-up. I tend not to bother with jewellery either. This is the kind of thing I will throw on to run around in.

These ‘Neon Blossom’ print trousers first caught my eye at the Company blog awards where the New Look team came to show us their S/S collection. I have been wearing them a lot since I got them, they have a bit of stretch so are super comfy. They also look good with a turn and my flats – yes I do wear flats sometimes.┬á Whilst I was in New Look I picked up this cute earring set too, they have a great fun jewellery rang. This set is great for mixing and matching with. Here I am wearing one of the Humming birds and one of the flowers.

As I never wear my hair up – except when I’m running errands and around the house, people never recognise me. Which is useful, perhaps this is my Clark Kent identity!

Little Treats

I decided I needed a break from the decorating so headed into town to have a look for some accessories. What I was really after was a lamp. Having exhausted eBay for a quirky retro one I decided to see what I could find in the shops. I saw a few nice ones in Debenhams a parrot is running favourite, but since I am in no rush for it I decided to have a look around. I have found really unique things in the past from TK Maxx so decided to have a look, they also have designer clothes for men (just in case I hadn’t mentioned that). I had absolutely no intention of looking at clothes or accessories, certainly not sunglasses but some how found myself leaving the store with yet another pair!

How could I resist these embellished Karl Lagerfeld ones for ┬ú24.99! They look black but are actually layers of blue and yellow plexi. I also thought it was about time I showed you the treasured Celine’s I picked up the other week. A tip for when buying sunglasses in TK Maxx, as they don’t always have the matching case – sometimes they don’t get sent with cases at all , other times the case’s come in later- at the till ask them to write the brand of the sunglasses on your receipt and that you didn’t get a case. Then if you happen to be in the next time and they do have the matching case you can pick it up so long as you have your receipt. I do have to add though, you are getting so much off the RRP I wouldn’t worry about the case all too much. I also took home two books ‘After a Fashion’ and ‘Vintage Jewellery’ both beautiful coffee table tomes I will enjoy looking through. Especially as the former has lots of Vivienne Westwood images. My favourite scents are Lavender and Violet so I couldn’t resist this delicious Castelbel scented candle, perfect for getting rid of the smell of paint.

Have a great weekend

Trends: The Summer Dress

Feeling the sand between your toes, flipping the pages of a well thumbed novel, sipping a tropical cocktail all your daydreaming realised as you finally get away for the summer…

…or not? Sure summer holidays are great but they are soon over or none existent for some of us. So for those of us spending summer in the city, we may as well focus our attention on other things, sartorial things perhaps? That is the great thing about fashion, it can transport you to any place in the world, during any time period be it a blast to the past or even into the future should you desire. For those of you who take pleasure in nostalgia, a 70’s geometrical print will be right up your street. Don’t let long sleeves put you off, in fact dresses with sheer or light weight fabric sleeves are a great alternative to a cover up. The past not your thing? Then shoot into the future with the Sports-Luxe trend. Think monochrome and straight lines, for a sleek silhouette. If it is far off destinations you are longing for then why not take a trip down the less beaten path. Think embellishment, beading, bright colours and chaotic prints with a Tribal edge. Less adventure more exotic your thing? Then go for turquoise and sea-green’s with over sized, abstract flowers, you will soon┬á feel like a Hawaiian girl.

All the beautiful dresses featured here can be found at, where everything is budget friendly. You will find all the trends from summer dresses, party dresses, maxi dress and knitted dresses, you name it they have it! I also found a lovely selection of shoes and jewellery too, should you not want to stop at just one new season wardrobe update! In fact I just bought a few things from their home wear section, promise to share once my bedroom make-over is complete.

Outfit: Summer Staple

Wearing: Zara tousers and clutch, LK Bennett shoes and All Saints sunglasses both from TK Maxx, vintage Burberry trench, old jumper, vintage necklace, Primark socks, Chanel Nouvelle vague nail colour.

Showing off more of my recent Zara haul these trousers and going to be my summer staple. Lawrence took these photo’s for me whilst we were lurking around in a stinky old alley like really pro bloggers! Thank you to everyone for your lovely comments on my last post, that really means a lot to me. You will be glad to know the hives have calmed down and I hope to get my decorating going this weekend. So far I have white-washed my pine bookcase and chest of draws, parted with my huge desk and moved around my bed. Small things which have made a huge difference. I have also had a major clear out. I dropped off some stuff at Cancer Research and as I was there a rather large transit van turned up filled to the roof with donations from TK Maxx’s ‘Give up Clothes for Good‘ campaign, I am made up it is going so well. There are quite a few different charity shops in the next town to me so I always divvy up my wares to each of them. They don’t just need donations but volunteers too, I have my behind the scenes at Oxfam to share with you soon. I am really enjoying sprucing up my bedroom but I have to say my favourite thing is my new clothes rail, simple pleasures I know! Once everything is back in place maybe I can give you a tour of my closet.
