Home: French Bedroom Company

DSC_2759a

The French Bedroom Company is the brainchild of Georgia Metcalfe, a girl with a passion for French style who wanted to bring quintessential chicness to the UK. If you are lucky enough to be in West Sussex you can drop by the luscious boutique, or you can delve inside Georgia’s world online. As you know I have an eye for anything luxurious and quirky so The French Bedroom Co is a homewear mecca for me. I could honestly kit out my entire home with their wonderful offerings, but until then here is a little corner dedicated to their wares. What better way to brighten up an empty nook in the hallway than this handsome ceramic moose – he is dressed to impress for Christmas with his baubles.

Lighting the way is this urban metal work arrow lamp, it runs on batteries so no need to scramble for a wall socket. When we move this will light the way to the shoe room, but for now it signals the way across the hall. Completing the trio is the My Deer candlestick, it is incredible detailed with a row of stags surrounded by little acorns and foliage.

All in all I have to say this has brightened up the hallway in more ways than one. Should you be looking for some beautiful homeware from chaises to chairs, a classic throw or an edge piece of wall art, even a gift for someone special, with something for all budgets you should take a look at The French bedroom Co.

Where I Realise How Boring I’m Becoming

Okay, okay I know promise this is the last snoozeberg post about homeware! Well at least for a while. If TK Maxx would deliver ten paces across the street I would be the proud owner of a huge green flocked mirror, alas I had to get one off eBay from the Mirror Outlet (highly recommended) because nowhere delivers any more. As it turns out I should have gone to eBay in the first place as there were tons of great options. In the end I decided a 6ftx6ft mirror was excessive even for selfie queen like me and got this one 5.8ft x2.3ft which fits nicely in my hallway. On the plus side I can now get back to outfit blogging even if it is only iPhone snaps (that whole tripod and trigger set up might happen one day). One last homeware hit, kitsch tea set up. Is that not the coolest milk jug you ever did see?

Some Fuzzy Pics of my New Place

IMG_0191

I promise to take some fabulous professional photos once I have settled in but here are some iPhone snaps of my new pad. Feels like I have been here a lot longer than 6 weeks, but the fact I seem to have only bought cushions with regards to furniture tells another tale. As does the sorry sight of the bedroom which looks like a carboot sale, sure I will get round to sorting it out eventually (possibly, maybe). I finally found a full length mirror which will be delivered soon so we can back to the business of fashion!

How Many Cushions is too Many?

IMG_0198IMG_0196IMG_0197 IMG_0202

There seems to be a reoccurring theme here! Cushions are starting to take over my apartment, but really can you ever have too many cushions? Will do a proper tour soon, settling in well and enjoying Sheffield. Although living a stones throw from TK Maxx and John Lewis is proving dangerous. Cushions a mix from Ikea – first photo, Home Sense, TK Maxx – all the green, pink, purples, Dunelm – sheepskin and shoe print and the skull came all the way from Mexico.

Bell Jar Shoe Display

DSC_0702DSC_0692DSC_0693DSC_0699DSC_0695

I have been looking for further ways to display some of my most special shoes, I like to have my favourites around the house outside of my wardrobe and bookcase. Only problem is that they gather dust so I’d been looking for some huge bell-jars like this as a solution. The only ones I could find were super expensive so I was really surprised to see these handmade glass ones in Home Sense for ┬ú9.99. They had lots of different shapes from really tall cone shaped ones to little tiny ones. This was the first time I managed to pay another visit to the store since I went to the grand opening back in May. They had a winter theme going on this time with lots of lust worth home ware, it is definitely my favourite home store now – sorry Ikea. There is another new home store opened in the Triangle in Manchester, I can’t remember what it was called, but it has the most fabulous great big curtain tie-backs I’ve ever seen. Will try and sneak a pic next time I go in, they also had dramatic ornate mirrors. What I really need is something to display my jewellery in so that is my next treasure hunt.

Events: Home Sense Opening Manchester

DSC_7662

This morning amidst a rather long queue of eager shoppers, I went down to see the opening of the brand new Home Sense store in the Manchester Arndale. The store is right next to sister brand TK Maxx and true to the company ethos packed full of gorgeous things with reasonable price tags. The loveable Coronation Street star Anthony Cotton was there to cut the ribbon and declare the store open. No need for me to ramble on, I took plenty of photo’s so you can see for yourselves. I am sure there is something for everyone from lust worthy glass wear, cheerful garden ornaments, rugs, sculptures and even doggie shampoo!

Mini Makeover: Updating the Home for Winter

I am really getting into the Winter spirit. The mornings are starting to have that crisp feeling, the Autumn leaves are covering the ground and it is time to wrap up warm. I’ve pulled out my winter coats and still need to go scrabbling around to locate the box my scarves are in. My light and breezy bedroom didn’t feel quite right not reflecting this. With its tropical pinks and turquoise it just seemed, well, a bit too summery. So I though I would give it a mini-makeover.┬á I pulled out my big faux-fur throws, a mink one for the bed and a cream one for my chair.┬á I had a gift voucher for Achica which I had been saving and decided to treat myself to these gorgeous cushions by May Lean. I’ve mentioned Achica before I think, it is one of those members only sale sites, all you have to do is sign up with you email and then you can shop all the amazing sale goods at your leisure. Unlike other sale sites this one isn’t just for apparel but home wear, wall art, beauty, travel, food and drink and all sorts of luxury items. The only slight disadvantage is that┬á products are only sent out after the sale ends (7-20 days depending on the specific sale), so I had to wait 3 weeks from ordering until delivery. But since I was saving more than 50% I thought that was worth it, I mean seriously how much of a rush can you really be in for cushions? Worth baring in mind when buying gifts though. If you are looking for expensive home wear on the cheap I can really recommend it and if you just fancy a browse it is worth a look too, right now they have Tom Ford sunglasses and Elkin jewellery I am eying up for Christmas presents. I also like the fact that they get in brands and items I wouldn’t usually see shopping the high street. If you are stuck for inspiration they have a very good Pinterest page too, lots of lust-worthy home wear boards. I love having the London skyline twinkling at me.

Have you ever shopped with Achica? Do you upadate your home as well as your wardrobe?

Sirius’ New Bed

Alternatively entitled The Princess and the Pea! You might remember me moaning about my dog Sirius’ gross old bed which was making my newly redecorated bedroom look messy. I tried buying him a new one, granted it was a bit smaller but otherwise identical. He wouldn’t even sit in it. So I washed his old bed – which he had to scent mark to make up for the fresh Lenor scent. I gave up and took to giving it a sly squirt of Febreeze every time I walked past it, much to the dogs annoyance.

┬áWhen Bags of Love asked if I wanted to review one of their products I initially thought I would go for a canvas print. I have had them made before and think they are perfect to brighten up any room. Taking a look around the website however I discovered they offered a huge choice of personalised products including handbags, make-up cases, silk scarves, soft furnishings, iPhone cases and trinket boxes. In fact I couldn’t think of anything they didn’t sell, which will be perfect for Christmas presents. Especially as I have become a photography geek!

But when I spotted the personalised dog beds I couldn’t resist. They are available in a range of sizes from small to XL so no reason you couldn’t have one for cats too. All you do is upload your photograph, choose the size and select a choice of trim for the edges, I chose the colour Coal with the Paw print design. Just a couple of days later the bed arrived in a snazzy silver parcel – so perfect for gifts. The fabric is wipe-clean, fully washable and hard wearing, the bed itself very soft and comfortable – I know this because I had to lay on it whilst all the dogs bounced all over me.

The bed looks really nice in my bedroom, much more stylish than a regular dog bed. Sirius’ really likes it too, he jumped right onto it, dragging his favourite ‘baby’ with him. On the first night I was woken up by some mysterious kerfuffle in the middle of the night. I looked down from the bed to see Sirius asleep on the floor, mysterious… and there was Simba (the big baby who will only sleep right next to me in my bed) all curled up with a bone in Sirius’ new bed ha ha! It definitely has the Pomeranian seal of approval and I can’t fault the excellent service and easy to use website, so I can really recommend the gorgeous gifts from Bags of Love.

Something to woof about!

Have you ever had a photograph made into a gift?

Style Inspiration – Chuck it on the Chair

I am always being asked what my style inspirations are, with the expected answer to be a list of Hollywood stars, celebrities, films and designers. In truth the most common thing is my bedroom chair. When I’ve chucked things on it haphazardly in a rush, clothes strewn around the room and all over the floor, it’s then by chance I will notice two things which really work together, things I wouldn’t have thought to try. Colours, patterns, shapes like a still-life mood board. Here tartan with sports-luxe or gold for a not to the opulent trend, it is nice to just have a play around. Flicking through the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar in bed, I noticed the purple trench with this bright orange clutch amongst other things piled on top of it, they could have jumper right out of the colour blocking editorial on the pages. Next time you are stuck for inspiration try delving into the back of your wardrobe and throwing it around a bit, you never know what you might find!

Where do you look for inspiration?

A Little Vivienne Westwood Decor!

How cool is this! Huge thank you to David at Onlinefire for letting me have the oversized blow-up they used for the Royal Mail Great British Fashion promotion. I’m absolutely made up with it! I guess you could make something similar if you had a large colour photocopy made of one of the stamps.
