Outfit: Stelllllllllllla

I wore this Stella McCartney all-in-one to a conference last week, I bought it earlier in the year and couldn’t wait to wear it. Cinched in with Fendi B belt, polka dot tights and patent Dior heels. These are one of my oldest pairs of designer shoes and they have really lasted me, they need a reheel now but other than that remain looking new. I couldn’t resist the little bow with the C and D initial charms. Every time I wear anything Stella I it reminds me of this:

1. Vivienne Westwood dresses and belts; 2. Rupert Sanderson shoes; 3. Stella McCartney blouse; 4. Vivienne Westwood Men’s jacket; 4. Little Chanel outfit; 6. vintage Chanel Fantasy tweed jacket.

These are actually from the week before the builders came, noway I was getting pastel pink Chanel out with the house covered in dust. First up are a selection of dresses I had picked out, nice summery ones which I rarely get the chance to wear. With the house being a building site I though it would be best to choose a few outfits and keep them somewhere easy to get so as not to risk things getting ruined. On the first day of the renovations we forgot to pull up the rugs in my bedroom and lounge and they are totally destroyed, lesson learned – cover everything imaginable as plaster dust is a sneaky thing. Ah yes the beautiful Rupert Sanderson Lintie shoes, as you can probably see they are far too big for me, I got sent the wrong size by mistake and they didn’t have my correct size so sadly they had to go back. Boo, hoo. I have asked for the super sexy Jean pumps to be sent as a replacement lets hope they fit.

This is a close up of the print on a Stella McCartney blouse I found at TK Maxx earlier in the year, it is beautiful and lists all the old ship routes. Educational and fashionable. The second print close up is the Vivienne Westwood Tea Garden print, they have used the print from SS13 women’s Gold Label for pre-collection Men’s in this stunning bomber jacket.┬á Quite fancy it myself.

Finally a partial outfit shot, got my Chanel on. This vintage jacket is one of my most treasured possessions. From the 80s but you will still find similar in the store today. Also a little peep at my new flats. One thing I always treat myself to are Chanel flats, I’ve tried other brands but nothing compares to the sheer quality, comfort and longevity of Chanel. They are expensive but last for years, well worth the investment. Will show you more of these soon, I went for something a bit different to my usual ballerina.

Hope you are all enjoying this sunshine.

How to Wear Vintage and Look Current

Following way 2: Vintage 80s dress and belt, with vintage inspired Vivienne Westwood t-bar shoes, Chanel boucle jacket and brooch, Wendy Brandes Little Woolfe necklace and ONecklace name necklace.

Something I get asked quite a lot is how to wear vintage pieces and still look current and on trend. I had a think about how I wear my vintage and came up with three easy ways to wear vintage:

1. Just wear one vintage piece – the easiest way to work vintage into your wardrobe is to start small. Try adding a vintage necklace or blouse to one of your regular outfits.

2. Wear with modern pieces in vintage influenced styles – designer and the high street both are full of things inspired by past decades. You can use these as a guide to finding and wearing original vintage clothes. If you like the current 1920s influenced trends of drop waists, long necklaces and heavy beading; start looking at original 20s pieces and the styles should look familiar.

3. Look for vintage pieces which haven’t dated– there are some designs which can be decades old yet wouldn’t look out of place today. Think of classic trench coats, black pencil skirts and white button up shirts. These items may be tweaked with each seasons whims but the basic forms will stay the same.

Outfit: Summer Styling with TK Maxx

DSC_7387

TK Maxx asked me if I would like to be part of their summer campaign to show how you can easily pull together the perfect summer outfit from their online store. As you all know I love TK Maxx, it is where I get a lot of my designer bargains from however I had never actually used their website before so I jumped at the chance. The idea was to choose a pair of shoes and a dress, an easy way to make an outfit. TK Maxx have such a huge selection, with many high street and designer brands. The website, as with the store, is a real treasure hunt, you never know what you will find! Pros of the website vs the store is that you can edit your search by size, style, colour and brand making things easier and quicker for those who don’t have time to rummage. It was really interesting to browse the brands selection, discovering names I hadn’t realised TK Maxx stocked. Since it is summer (apparently) I though it would be nice to look for an easy to wear day dress which could be dressed up or down. I didn’t particularly have anything in mind, so just decided to search by size and see what came up. My eye was caught by all the lovely bright prints but I was torn between a pencil or 50s silhouette. Most of my summer dresses are vintage so I opted for this printed orange silk dress which is a similar style to what I have, full skirt and nipped in waist. As TK Maxx only have limited stock the dress I chose already sold out, however you can browse all their other fabulous dresses.

For the shoes, of course I wanted heels! But I really wanted to try something a bit different to my staple court shoes. The first pair I chose were a stunning pink, sequin peep-toe pair, but unfortunately they were too big, sob. I returned them, one of the only cons of the website is that you have to pay for posting items back but you can return them in store. Instead I choose these bright, colour block sandals. Even in summer I can’t bear to ditch the socks so these little anchors are my seasonal option! These shoes also sold out right after I got mine, one thing I will advise is buy it when you see it. TK Maxx don’t carry huge stock, that’s how they get such bargain prices, so things sell out fast. Don’t worry though there are lots more gorgeous shoes here waiting.

Since I had my hair in a messy beehive -new default lazy hair style – I felt the whole outfit looked a bit too vintagey, with the 50s shape dress and cat eye sunglasses. To tone it down a bit I added the cut-off army jacket and belt. The sunglasses are such a nice shape, they only have a rim on the top so are bit aviator, a bit rayban. I actually just bought them myself from the TK Maxx website, designer sunglasses for ┬ú20 (rrp ┬ú100), can’t really argue with that! The designer shoes were ┬ú80 (rrp approx┬ú400) and the high street dress ┬ú29.99 (rrp approx ┬ú120), such great savings! If you have never checked out their website I really do recommend it, you will be surprised what big designer names you find.

Comic Relief: 50 Ways to Wear it

IMG_5930

I am sure you already know that TK Maxx have joined with Comic Relief and Stella McCartney to design these fun Red nose day t-shirts to raise money for the charity. I took mine along to London Fashion Week and wore one each day – such a shame it was so cold and I didn’t get to show them off as much as I would have liked! My favourite way to wear the t-shirts was with a pretty, floaty skirt and sky high heels.

Now you can share your own ways to style the Comic Relief t-shirts and help raise awareness for Red Nose Day by uploading you photo to the TK Maxx Facebook page and clicking on the 50 Ways to Wear it app tab. Just ‘like’ the app page and upload your photo, easy as that!

Trends: How to Stand Out this Party Season

I am starting to get excited about all the parties for Christmas and New Year’s now. But ever year there is the same problem, how do you make your party outfit stand out from the sea of little black dresses and sequins? One trend this season is to highlight the back, giving interest to your outfit without taking away from your dazzling smile. Stella McCartney has mastered this technique, subtly with the cut out detail ‘Exter Miracle’ dress and dramatically with the full tassel backed ‘George’ dress. Both striking yet classic LBD’s which you could dress up or down as you pleased. If you already have your perfect party dress, then you might want to brighten it up, the Alexander McQueen chiffon capes are a fabulous way to add impact to your outfit and also work as a light cover up. Shown here worn with blouse and trousers, they are also very versatile. There are plenty of jewel coloured shoes around, ruby, amethyst, emerald all perfect with black and gold dresses. If you fancy something different however, why not try a white shoe? With Spring / Summer collections becoming available even earlier this year you can buy now and wear well into spring. The Stella sling-blacks above would make equally fabulous party shoes as they would with a light dress in the summer.

Accessories are the simplest way to dress up an outfit and also easy to use when creating a day-to-night look for after work parties. A small clutch or bright bauble you can stash in your office draw. There are a multitude of power packing clutch bags on the scene right now, here from Alexander McQueen and Diane von Furstenburg. You could play out your own Cinderella fantasy with this charming clock face bag. Don’t be afraid to be bold with the jewels either, a nice gob-stopper cocktail ring or chandelier earring. This sweet bee from Delfina Delettrez is something a little more unusual to the average giant gem. Wearing a large necklace or layering up many thinner ones can create a cool feature and is as perfect for dressing up a party frock as it is an old t-shirt.

All items available from Matches Fashion

How will you be tackling the party season? Fancy any of these in your stocking?

Love Stella

(Wearing: vintage Chanel jumper, vintage leather skirt, Chanel shoes)
This post just makes me laugh, to be honest it shouldn’t really be a post but I know you all love Stella McCartney too. Let this be a lesson to you all, photography under the influence is not recommended. I wasn’t there as a blogger, I was there as me, so not being there for work meant being there for play, and a bottomless glass of fizz! Which is why I totally forgot to take any photo’s except these really crappy ones, ah well I was having a good time. This was the Stella McCartney Preview.

This is my friend Aimee we were there with the intention of checking out possible wedding dresses for her – if Aimee disappeares later on today it is because I got told off for putting her on the blog LOL! Now if I remember correctly she is wearing a Karen Walker dress and Sports Girl cardi – both New Zealand designers, where Aimee is from. Her belt is from Reiss and I forget where her shoes are from but we have about 10 photos of them, possibly to prove how on trend her petite stilettos are.
The collection was wonderful, such a summery feast. Layers of floral lace, bold garden prints and thousands of sequins (not shown here I realise LOL)
The pale blue dress you can just about see here, paired with nude patent pumps was our absolute favourite look.

This sequin snake skin pattern dress was so beautiful and perfect for shimmery nights out no matter what the season.

Luckily we have Style.com so you can see for yourselves the wonderful Cruise 2011 collection

There was also an influx of mullets on the runway – no not the hair style, the hemlines (seen above bottom left and right). I don’t know if this is an official term or just Aimee’s but I liked it.
The was also the return of Stella’ s leopard t-shirts and a new horse print which I might have to add to my collection. There was also a fine collection of handbags and shoes, damn it I wish I had taken more photos now, oh well I guess that means you will have to take your good selves down to Selfridges!

Simplicity is sometimes more exciting than Drama

Two of my favourite collections from Paris were Chloe and Celine. Again I am somewhat surprised by this, never having been a ‘Chloe Girl’ before. I commented on both houses regarding the S/S collections and still think that both Hannah McGibbon and Phoebie Philo really have this deep understanding for what women want to wear, but also what they will wear it with. There aren’t many looks in the following images which I personally couldn’t recreate from my own wardrobe, with a new belt or styling detail. I think there is quite a skill in creating a collection that women can alreadys see themselves wearing.

Celine A/W 10

Chloe A/W 10

Stella McCartney also has this outlook, I am always surprised by her ability to make me lust after something retro, such as S/S 10 denim skirt and the ski-pants in this collection.

Stella McCartney A/W 10

Not saying that it is only the women who can work this charm, Stefano Pilati has become synonymous with classic, well cut womenswear at YSL.

YSL A/W 10

This season Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton went all prim and proper with classic cut jackest and billowing skirts, paired with elegant kitten heels.

So that’s it Fashion Month is over! Now at least we can get back to S/S !
