Vivienne Westwood Special Edition Summer LookBook by Garment Quarter

I really like the spring / summer lookbook Garment Quarter produced this season featuring Vivienne Westwood with a smatter of Victoria Beckham, KTZ and Sibling for good measure! Here are my favourite images from the shoot. If you haven’t heard of Garment Quarter they are a luxury boutique in ┬áBristol and also have the Vivienne Westwood store in Cardiff. If you aren’t local to either store you can check out all the amazing designers on Garment┬áI first visited the Bristol store whilst I was working down there and was really blown away with the customer service, something I am always delighted with when I mail order from them too. They are a super friendly bunch so do pay a visit.

Trends: Give Good Coat

If there is one thing that can really make your outfit it’s a coat. Dressed up or down it’s the one item that can pull your look together like nothing else. I always find it hard to choose a new coat, do I go for the statement piece or the classic? Something so this season or one I know won’t date? I admire Victoria Beckham’s style, she always gives good coat. She knows how to make it a statement piece for her outfit as much as she knows how to dress it down. One of my favourite coat looks at the moment is a classic back or navy military a la Vicky B or┬á┬áa woman’s coat┬áwith faux fur collar like this one would see you through the seasons. I’ve had my long black militraty coat for years and am sorry to say my navy one bit the dust after a few years of constant wear. I also really am a fan of the new trend for coloured faux fur collars which you can detach allowing you to mix up your look, getting more life from one item. I currently have a bright pink and dark blue furry collar which I use to change up my outfit depending on my mood. I also think faux fur will stick around into spring, taken off coats and worn over sweaters and sleeveless waistcoats, so now is the time to invest. Mrs B would approve.

What’s Hot for Autumn Winter 2012

Bling, bling, gorgeous things! I went to check out what Harvey Nichols had in store for A/W 12 and I have to say it had me wishing it was December already. Looking at all the wonderful party dress – jewel colours of emerald and topaz, had me longing for the party season to get into swing, just add your dancing shoes. Whilst the array of thick, colourful knits made ‘Christmas jumpers’ cool again. The ever so popular YSL ‘Arty’ rings are back in fabulous new styles and colour, gob-stopper cocktail rings are the perfect addition to your party look. Isabel Marant once again reigns as queen of casual Parisian chic pairing Navajo knits with flirty white dresses and tasseled wedge boots. For me the one thing which screams ‘this season’ are the dark florals, wear them in knitted dresses from McQ by Alexander McQueen and Just Cavalli or Alexander McQueen’s satin clutch to feel instantly up to date. What am I lusting after? If I can only choose one thing it would have to be something with the Givenchy Rottweiler print, beautifully wild.

Menswear echoed ladies wear with the popularity of prints, anything from colourful birds to rich paisleys and even a splash of leopard print will add depth to deep tartans and flannels. Deep plums and all shades of blue feature heavily. What really caught my eye was the attention to detail this season, giving a real sense of luxury. Alexander McQueen ‘holster’ shirts, velvet lapels and the Christian Louboutin leopard print studded iPad case add lust worth interest.

Harvey Nic’s are offering a fantastic selection of new designers this season including Ashley B, Kenzo, Lanvin sunglasses, Faith Connection, Mason Scotch, Cut 25, 2nd Day and Temperley for Barbour.

In the beauty department there is the brand new Bobbi Brown make-up studio an the exclusive Florabotanica by Balenciaga. I know it’s early to be talking about Christmas but there were lots of lush things if you have gifts in mind, the new compact sets from Benefit in their quirky book styles, perfumes from Penhaligons and the new Blackberry and Bay scent range from Jo Malone.

We had a fun time trying out the new handbags, here Anna-Louise and Siobhan from Style etc Magazine, model the Victoria Beckham ‘Harper’ and Givenchy ‘Rottweiler’ bags. Whilst we all couldn’t resist giving the new sunglasses from Celine and Prada a whirl.

It is safe to say I’m all ready for the new season, how about you?

NYFW AW12: Round Up

When your head is in the fashion world things can get confusing, in fact I think especially in the real world things are even more confusing. I was shopping yesterday for some new outfits, it is freezing cold here in the UK so a coat, scarf some knitwear was what I wanted. But alas the stores have all the new spring/summer collections in, which is great on one hand it is so nice to buy something new and cheerful to have for when the sunshine comes. Yet on the other hand it makes shopping for now impossible! Then New York fashion week kicks off with next autumn/winter collections but I don’t want to wait until September I want to wear it now. With Burberry kicking off the buy straight from the runway option and word has it other designers are following suit, it is great to not have to wait. However if we can have next seasons clothes now, will we still want to wear them in 6 months time? Who knows but I do think the traditional way catwalk to shop works will have to change to keep up.
Any way enough of my musings here are the highlights of NYFW. Key themes are bold colours especially yellow, which is good news as it is a hot colour for S/S too, meaning you can make your bold colour items work for both seasons. Another transeasonal trend is white, I know, I know ‘no white after Labour day’ but really it is time to throw that rule out the door. Teamed with black leather winter white is very appealing. The waist was emphasised by many designers but no one cuts a lean figure like Victoria Beckham. The midi skirt is also surprisingly flattering just make sure it hits at the slim part of your leg. Pairing sweaters with lady-like skirts is a really easy trend to adopt, I’m pretty sure most of you have a sweater and a skirt! Another thing of note this season is the lack of winter ware. Really, looking through the collections they could easily be mistaken for spring/summer. Fear not there were beautiful sheepskin and leather pieces but layering was done with a sleeker silhouette in mind.
