Pharrell Williams Mountain Hat Rainbow

image006

Pharrell has made his love of Vivienne Westwood Worlds End Mountain Hats no secret, even more so in his new Marilyn Monroe video where he chooses a different colour for each scene! ┬áI still don’t think he owns more than my buddy Alquin but he sure has a fine collection! Thanks to Raf for these images.

Day 2: LFW AW14- ish

DSC_1285Wearing: Coat, bag, brolly from TK Maxx, Skirt and Jumper Vivienne Westwood, Shoes Guess

This photo makes me laugh as it pretty much sums up the mood of today. Wet, wet and more wet with a gale force wind or two, we wondered if the roof of the Show tent would stay on at one point! On the plus side I’m wearing this awesome gold coat trimmed with tassels – like couches in the 80s! I promise some more coherent content tomorrow but I’m cold, wet, tired and have a million photo’s to edit still, who was it that said fashion week was glam?

Pharrell Williams Grammy Hat

56th GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Being the font of all Westwood knowledge I’ve had a few questions regarding Pharrell Williams choice of head-gear for last nights Grammy awards. I can confirm it is a Vivienne Westwood Worlds End Mountain hat which he has worn on numerous other occasions. These hats were a fundamental element of the Buffalo look which originated in the Westwood-McLaren Nostalgia of Mud collection AW1982-83 and have graced the heads of those ballsy enough to wear them ever since. Pharrell gets extra cool points for his leather Adidas 3-stripe red leather jacket – I feel like I need one in my life! My girl Lauran already wrote a detailed post about Pharrells hat so do check it out. Purchased details can be made via the Worlds End blog / shop, the hats cost a very reasonable ┬ú85 and are still hand made in England.

So many outfits, so little time! I counted 56 outfit posts on the blog this year, that’s just over one per week not bad going. Will 2014 see more? We shall have to see, one selfie mirror much needed. Here are a few of my favourites, you can see the rest in my Facebook album What Pearl Wore 2013.

Here are the past four years round ups!

Throw Back Thursday: Holey Socks at Worlds End

DSC_4545-21

I ususally only take part in the Throw Back Thursday tag on Instagram (@SuperElevated) but I wanted to share here too as it is such a great photo, with such a great tale. You can find out why I was wearing these holey socks at Worlds End in the original post back in January. I was reminded of it as I pulled out all my big winter clothes this week, I may not like being freezing cold but I do love winter fashion!

Halloween Outfit: The Princess & the Pea

DSC_0416

The Princess & the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.

One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.

DSC_0488

It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.

┬á┬á┬á┬á Well, we’ll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.

On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.

DSC_0424

┬á┬á “Oh, very badly!” said she. “I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It’s horrible!”

Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.

DSC_04341

Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that.

So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.

There, that is a true story.

My Halloween outfit this year was inspired by The Princess and the Pea fairytale and Vivienne Westwood’s Prince Charming collection from AW2010. Vivienne Westwood sample dress and crown from the Prince Charming collection, Gillie platform shoes, Alex belt and Pearly Queen necklace; wig and tights Ebay. Make-up: Smashbox primer; Bobbi Brown Long Wear foundation, Retouching Powder, Pink Valentine nail varnish; Illamasqua Blush Duo Katie used also on eyes; Chanel Inimitable Mascara Blue Note, Rouge Allure lipstick Kensington, Levres Scintillanties lipgloss; GO Paris glitter and stars.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Outfits: Vivienne Westwood Inspirations #4 – Conceal, Reveal

DSC_0337 (2)DSC_0339 (2)

Today I’m Wearing: Vivienne Westwood Gold Label AW10 shirt, Anglomania Kung Fu trousers, Tartan Meg Gillie Shoes from AW11, Worlds End John Bull hat, lips choker.

This looks takes the basis from the last Vivienne Westwood Inspirations post ‘Like Superman’ and tailors it right back up. In general ‘fashion rules’ the idea is to balance one oversized, baggy piece against something more fitted. A voluminous blouse with tight pencil skirt say, or a cocoon coat with sharp stilettos. Westwood however doesn’t do rules. For the SS03 collection the look was full on flounce, lots and lots of volume. Her trick to stopping the models looking overwhelmed by layers and layers of fabric was to keep the blouses off the shoulders reveling the slender decolletage and ankles.

Continuing from AW11 I kept the yellow tights clashing against the tartan shoes, added the grey baggy trousers and buttoned up the shirt but kept it off the shoulders.

Outfit: Doubling Up

1234285_645299198843469_309688844_n

Today I’m wearing: Vivienne Westwood- Gold Label Argyle suit, beloved red Mary Jane shoes; Red Label tartan jacket, Swallow necklace; Wendy Brandes Little Woolfe necklace.

Quick little update today, wanted to share this outfit I wore when I went to Bath, making use of this beautiful mirror. Can’t beat a tartan clash! Also wearing my lovely swallow necklace, it’s quite an old piece now I guess.

Really looking forwards to the Vogue Fashion Night Out on Thursday here in Manchester. My top picks will be Bobbi Brown, Guerlain at House of Fraser, TK Maxx, Vivienne Westwood and Armani to name a few! Hope everyone who can makes it has a fab night and do stop to say hi if you see me!

Outfit: Vivienne Westwood Inspirations #3 – Like Superman

DSC_0292 (2) DSC_0304 (2)a

Today I’m Wearing: Vivienne Westwood – Gold Label Prince Charming AW10 collection shirt, Yourself tshirt;Worlds End boxers, John Bull hat; Tartan shoes AW11; lips necklace.

When you’re 5.2″ posting photos of yourself next to 6ft+ glamazonian beauties isn’t generally the best idea but hey the things I do for fashion. Canary yellow tights, I’m not gonna lie, wouldn’t usually be top of my list of flattering items either. So the fact I’m doing all this wearing just a pair of boxers with tights over the top a la Superman just about put the cherry on the cake for today’s escapades. I had to do it though, out of all of Westwood styling tricks I’m going to say this is the most erm eye-catching :/

It looks undeniably amazing in the ad campaign and as it has appeared numerous times on the runway. Exposed boxers were also a big feature for SS09 where they were worn with loosely strung, crotch slit trousers. Dame Viv famously took centre stage at the Paralympics closing ceremony and later for the finale of her SS13 Red Label show, wearing the look to unveil her Climate Revolution campaign.

Dame Viv can basically wear anything she wants and make it look cool, although on a positive note she is closer to my height. Either way there was no denying this was going to be really difficult to pull off so I decided to just go for it wholeheartedly, tights, boxers, hat, crazy make up the works.

The verdict? It’s not one I will be wearing, but it is stunning for the runway and of course Dame Viv. It was really fun to try and in the next Inspirations post I will share how I made it more wearable which you might like to try yourself.
